How to help

To improve the nunnery and the living conditions we humbly ask for your help.

You can help the nunnery by making a donation or sponsor a nun on a monthly basis. By sponsoring or requesting a puja you also help the nuns in with their livelihood.

1. Make a donation:

We are very grateful for any amount of donation you  wish to make.

You may send a personal check, cashier's check or International Money Order by Registered Post directly to the nunnery administrative secretary. If you would like to Wire Transfer, please contact secretary of Geden Choeling for directions. All the contact information is listed below. You are also welcome to visit the nunnery and deliver your donation in person. Please indicate how you wantyour donation to be spent , i.e.  directly for the nuns, for a particular project,  or any other  way you wish.

2. Sponsor the construction work:

In the "urgent needs" section you can read all the details about the phased construction work that is needed. You can make a donation  to sponsorthe construction work of the nunnery, or If you would like to sponsor a specific project please check the pricelist below. For instance: you can choose to sponsor the construction with one hour or day of labor or by means of 100 bricks.

* One hour of labor                       150           Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 3.80)

* One day of labor                      1200           Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 30.50)

* One bag of gravel                        15            Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 0.35)

* Construction steel (per kg)          32           Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 0.80)

* One bag of cement                     235          Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 6.00)

* 100 bricks                                    350          Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 8.90)

* 100 stones for foundation           500         Rps ( ~ U.S. $ 12.70)

If you would like to sponsor the construction work in this way please send a description of the item(s) you would like to sponsor and send the corresponding amount of money as described in the “Make a donation” section above. We kindly ask you to check for the exchange rates from Indian rupees (rps) to your own currency.

3. Sponsor a nun

Most of the nuns that live in the Geden Choeling Nunnery came into exile without family. For this reason they totally rely on the nunnery for food, robes, shoes and pocket money. The nunnery has insufficient funding to provide this for them. Therefore we are always looking for sponsors for our nuns.

We ask for a monthly sponsorship of U.S. $ 30 or equivalent.

4. Request a puja

The main source of income for most nunneries and monasteries are requests for pujas. Many people that live in the neighbourhood of the nunnery come to the nuns for special prayers.
